PatentSchmiede

From invention disclosure to a German patent application draft for attorney review.

On your infrastructure. With local or hosted AI inference.

Design-partner phase 2026 · DPMA · installed at your firm

Claim 1 · Version 3 · ExampleAI

A clamping device for a forging workpiece with a base body and a clamping arm, wherein the clamping arm pivots on a joint AI and a sensor coil detects the clamping force without contact AI, characterised in that the evaluation unit generates a signal when a deviation occurs AI.

3 AI-formulated passages · 0 attorney-reviewed

Three commitments made visible in the workflow.

For patent attorneys, PatentSchmiede makes responsibility in the draft traceable. That includes clear sign-off, information about data processing, and source details for each section.

You remain responsible

Attorney approval applies to the exact version you reviewed. No DOCX for filing is issued until that version is approved.

You choose where AI requests are processed

The installation runs on your firm’s infrastructure. Model A has no external inference endpoint configured, and the supplied local model server, Ollama, refuses models that run in the Ollama cloud. A separately configured hosted fallback can still send data outside if the local model fails. In Model B, prompts and embedding text are sent to the Azure endpoint configured by your firm. Web research in the research record is on by default. Words from the research order go to a public search engine only in a research run for which the attorney explicitly allows web access. Your IT team can switch web research off.

Draft versions and sources stay traceable

The draft shows its version, the model and prompt version used, and the sources it draws on.

You can see what happens next.

You manage the case file. The copilot checks, asks, and drafts. Versions and decisions remain traceable at each step.

01

Case file and invention disclosure

You open the case file and record the technical invention as its starting point.

02

Check completeness

The copilot marks missing information before drafting begins.

03

Clarify open points

You answer prioritised questions. The answers are linked to the invention disclosure.

04

Generate the German draft

The copilot writes claims, description, and abstract and checks them for formal requirements.

05

Compare versions

You compare changes and restore an earlier state as a new version.

06

Approve a version

You review and approve a specific version.

07

Export DOCX

After you approve the version, the system creates a DOCX file.

02 / 05

Verification belongs in the draft.

The workflow makes it clear which statements are supported, checked, and approved.

  1. 01DOCX output follows approval: you review and approve the specific version.
  2. 02Source checks: the copilot checks whether statements in the draft are supported by the underlying documents.
  3. 03Formal checks of the claims before output, with a limited number of automatic revisions.
  4. 04Each section shows the model, prompt version, and sources used.
  5. 05Every DOCX export is recorded in the audit trail with its version, content hash, and sign-off.

Two ways to process AI requests.

The application and case files run on your firm's infrastructure. Your firm chooses between local AI processing and its configured Azure endpoint.

Model A: AI on your firm's hardware

AI model
Ollama on the firm’s hardware
Data
AI requests stay on the firm’s infrastructure
Data processor (GDPR)
No external processor for local AI processing

Model B: Azure OpenAI

AI model
Azure OpenAI at Microsoft
Data
Prompts and embedding text go to the Azure endpoint configured by your firm
Data processor (GDPR)
Microsoft processes Azure OpenAI requests under your firm's contract

What the copilot does not do.

No prior-art search, no novelty opinion, no freedom-to-operate search, and no legal advice. A patent attorney must review every draft.
